I build salary, tax and benefit calculators for several countries. Most EI calculators stop at “55%, max $729”. The part people actually get wrong, and that changes the outcome by thousands of dollars, is the regional grid: hours required, best weeks and weeks of benefits all depend on where you live and on a rate that changes every month. This site puts that grid at the centre, in English and French, and keeps it current.

Background

I trained as an engineer at Mines Saint-Étienne and hold an MBA from INSEAD. Engineering taught me not to publish a number unless you can trace it back to the rule that produced it; the MBA taught me to present it from the point of view of the person who has to decide. Personal finance and social benefits have been a long-standing interest: I read the Employment Insurance Act and the monthly Statistics Canada tables at source, then turn them into a calculation anyone can redo line by line.

This site is independent work, run in a personal capacity. It offers a documented estimate, never an eligibility decision — that rests with Service Canada.

Funding

The site is free and advertising-supported. Ads never appear above the calculator. No user data is sold; calculations run entirely in your browser.
