What this site is — and what it is not

This site offers a free Employment Insurance calculator and explanatory guides. Results are estimates based on the Employment Insurance Act, the weekly benefit rates and maximum insurable earnings published by Service Canada, and the regional unemployment rates published by Statistics Canada. They are not legal, tax or financial advice, they create no entitlement, and they do not bind Service Canada, which alone decides your claim. This site is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of the Government of Canada. What the tool covers and deliberately does not cover is set out in our methodology.

Accuracy and liability

We update the parameters at every change and test the calculator against reference cases, but we do not warrant that it is error-free or complete. Rules change, and some situations — work outside Canada, fishing benefits, self-employed special benefits, overlapping claims — follow rules the calculator does not apply. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from a decision made solely on an estimate, or from any interruption of the service. The site is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. If you spot an error, tell us through the contact page; our correction process is described in the editorial policy.

The text, design, compiled data and source code of this site are protected by the Copyright Act and remain the property of the publisher. Reproduction or reuse without permission is prohibited, except for short quotations with a link to the source page. Statutes and Government of Canada data are reproduced under the terms set by their originating departments.
